Trumbull, CT (WorkersCompensation.com) – A non-profit transportation company has said it has reached an agreement with Lyft to provide rides to people in their workers’ compensation transportation program to their medical appointments.
Coordinated Transportation Solutions (CTS), a non-profit company that provides transportation to at-risk populations for non-emergency medical transportation services and workers’ compensation transportation, among other transportation services, said the move would help them lower costs for some of their customers.
According to CTS, Lyft will transport CTS’ workers’ compensation patients to their medical appointments. The company also said it felt that using Lyft would lower the rate of missed medical appointments for its customers.
David White, the founder and president of CTS, said that now only did the agreement allow the company to pass cost savings along to its customers and their workers’ compensation providers, but that it also allowed the company to expand its services through Lyft’s nationwide footprint.
"To date we've saved (our healthcare providers) approximately 27 percent of the cost of ambulatory transportation through this agreement," White said in an interview with WorkersCompensation.com. “For 20 years, we’ve been providing workers’ compensation transportation services and we’ve watched the evolution of the transportation models. The on-demand services are more cost effective and allows us to use their capacity to expand. This is another tool in our toolbox.”
White said the two companies came to an agreement in late spring, and have been working together mostly in the Northeast and Midwest.
